The meaning of sunnah is “habitual practice, customary procedure or action, norm, usage sanctioned by tradition”. After the Qur’an, Sunnah is the second most important source of Islamic law.

One of the Sunnah is Sadaqah. That’s the reward of giving Sadaqah – and Allah ï·»reminds us many times throughout the Quran:

“Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allah, and do not follow up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury, their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” (2:261-262)

The Importance of Giving in Islam:

  1. It cleans money.
  2. It purifies its giver of sins.
  3. It cleanses the faults it has committed.
  4. It wards against disaster and disease.
  5. It brings joy to the poor.
  6. The destitute are made happy, and riches are blessed and increased.
  7. It protects a person from the intense heat of the Day of Judgment.
  8. It makes one’s good deeds valued less in the divine reckoning.
  9. It facilitates a person’s traverse from Hellfire to Paradise.

Child or Orphan Sponsorship:

Many of us forget that today’s children are tomorrow’s future. In order to provide a secure lot, we must all work together to ensure that every child’s right to an education is met. All children have the right to an education and the opportunity to develop the life skills necessary for success.
Participating in child sponsorship can ensure that not only the child, but their entire family, has a prosperous future in which the skills they learn can be used to propel the community forward. Making an investment in a kid’s education is one of the most well-liked forms of sadaqah jariyah. Since it can bring about innumerable benefits for years to come by securing a child, their family, and even the local community’s future.

Participating in the construction of a mosque, school, or hospital:

Many Muslims choose to donate to the construction of a mosque in the hopes of receiving significant benefits. Similarly, you can contribute to the construction of a school or hospital, which benefits others. Your rewards will last as long as others benefit from your kindness. In fact, you will be rewarded for every single prayer said in the mosque, every single patient treated in the hospital, and every single person who learns in school. A priceless act of sadaqah that will touch the lives of countless people.

Spreading Knowledge:

In Islam, spreading knowledge is highly rewarded, and as Muslims, we are responsible for spreading correct Islamic knowledge and inviting others to the faith. If you reveal just one correct religious fact to another human being, and that person follows your advice and shares your knowledge with someone else, you are rewarded every step of the way. Similarly, teaching someone how to recite the Holy Qur’an will bring you continuous reward even after you die, because every time that person recites the Holy Qur’an, or in turn, teaches someone else the Holy Qur’an, you benefit from the rewards for each of those people.

As we look to the example of Prophet Muhammad (saw) for guidance in fulfilling our duties as Muslims, we are reminded of the need to help others who lack even the daily essentials we enjoy but may take for granted. The Prophet (saw) said:

‘None of you have faith until you love for your neighbor what you love for yourself.” (Muslim)

May Allah SWT reward us all for our good deeds and acts of charity, and may He grant us all a place in Jannah. Ameen.
